Be your own therapist
March 19, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm100kr – 145kr
“Be your own therapist: tools for dealing with emotions” is a weekly talk about emotions.
Have you experienced anger? Fear? What do you do to deal with disturbing emotions?
This talk is about the Buddhist view on disturbing emotions. What are their origin and their function? Why do we behave the way we do? What are the antidotes to anger, frustration, jealousy, pride? How can we rewire our minds to be at ease?
The session starts with stabilizing meditation and setting the motivation. We take one or two disturbing emotions as a subject and explore their functions and our habitual way of dealing with them. We then study their antidotes. For example, Buddhist psychology says that the antidotes for anger are loving kindness and patience.
We discuss strategies for dealing with disturbing emotions when they arise and for preventing regrettable episodes in the future.
The session ends with a meditation on constructive states of mind – loving kindness, compassion, equanimity, joy.
In this way, we learn to deal with our disturbing emotions, discover their causes, and rewire our minds for constructive mental states – we learn to be our own therapists.
Facilitator: Zarina is very much inspired by the message of His Holiness the Dalai Lama about secular ethics – education about cultivating universal human values such as love and compassion irrespective of whether one is a believer or a non-believer. She studied Buddhist philosophy at Sera Je Monastery in India and Europe. Besides managing social media at Yeshe Norbu, as a certified Iyengar yoga and Cultivating Emotional Balance (CEB) teacher, she teaches meditation and yoga courses.
