Summer Morning Meditations in July – Every morning
July 3, 2018 @ 7:00 am - July 31, 2018 @ 8:00 am
Benefits of the mornings-meditation are many: you re-stress – you counteract stress, you can handle what ever the day brings, you can turn on spam-filter in you mind; select better on what to focus – your concentration will be improved e t c. You might not achieve all this during one month, mind training is like physical training: it takes some time to create a new habit. You do it “just by sitting” and turning the attention inwards. But it can give you a taste of a better way of dealing with a complex life in the city! And prevent stress and burnout.
– Meditation is like any other skill, possible to learn, you just need correct training. In fact we should talk about “meditations”, thy there are many different techniques. Shamatha / Calm-Abiding is a method recommended for the beginners, since we have a more chaotic mind that we are aware of. Shamatha meditations purpose is to calm the mind to start with, then we can move on to other practices.
We use basic meditation exercises: attention to breath and the Four Immeasurables. Having focus on the breath is used in Shamatha / Calm-abiding meditation. And the Four Immeasurables are methods of cultivating awareness and kindness towards ourselves – and helping us connecting with others. We have 24 minutes sessions with a short break between. And ” fika” of course.

We will use the first two of these three shamatha-techniques – that have been found to be effective for people living in the modern world:
- Mindfulness of breathing. This technique is particularly recommended for those who have highly discursive minds and find it difficult to remain in the present moment.
- Settling the mind in its natural state. We are often under the control of and overwhelmed by our thoughts, emotions and memories. Through simply observing these movements of our mind this technique enables us to become the masters of our mind.
- Awareness of awareness. This technique enables us to simply rest within the stillness of our awareness. It is also well known for leading us to an insight into the very nature of our mind. The Four Immeasurables:
