We´ll have focus on cultivating compassion, the second of the Four Immeasurables* – based on the First Truth of the Aryas; truth of suffering /dissatisfaction. – Here you can get isnpired and listen guided meditations from Alan Wallace 8-Week Shamatha Retreat:
1/ Introduction of the practice of the cultivation of compassion, focused on alleviating pain, especially the one caused by behavior – oné s own or others.

– Meditation is like any other skill, possible to learn, you just need correct training. In fact we should talk about “meditations”, thy there are many different techniques. Shamatha / Calm-Abiding is a method recommended for the beginners, since we have a more chaotic mind that we are aware of. Shamatha meditations purpose is to calm the mind, make it serviceable, then we can move on to other practices.
Three shamatha-techniques – that have been found to be effective for people living in the modern world:
- Mindfulness of breathing. This technique is particularly recommended for those who have highly discursive minds and find it difficult to remain in the present moment.
- Settling the mind in its natural state. We are often under the control of and overwhelmed by our thoughts, emotions and memories. Through simply observing these movements of our mind this technique enables us to become the masters of our mind.
- Awareness of awareness. This technique enables us to simply rest within the stillness of our awareness. It is also well known for leading us to an insight into the very nature of our mind.* The Four Immeasurables – are to be viewed as aspirations not just emotions:
